simple high scoring paper will only check the accuracy of the candidates. because, high scoring means that the pattern of every question is known before..so one who study/muggs much will get the good score.AND THIS SI NOT WHAT IITS DESERVE.iits need good students having high level of I.Q. NOT JUST MUGGERS...

Ithink a prestigeos institute like IIT must not conduct simple tests and also they cant calculate the quality of a student and give him a seat

Well, I thinink JEE should not be made on the level par with the boards. But at the same time it cannot be as tough as it used to be in the early 90's. One stage exam is definitely welcome but it should not be completely objective. I do agree that the council was correct at some points like:
1. JEE became just a qualifying exam with even the toppers scoring absymally low marks with the qualifying % being just 35-40%
2. Over dependence on coaching institutes which if not curbed today would stand up to be a serious issue. Schools should be given due importance.
I strongly feel that JEE should be a combination of both subjectives and objectives which was the case last seen in 1999 which was a true measure of one's intellengence but the level then was too high. The level should be somewhere inbetween.

As far as the eligibility criteria goes on:
*. 60% criteria sounds good provided all the 38 boards including the CBSE and the ISC form a "Common Question Paper setting and Evaluation guidelines" to be followed by every board thus maintaining uniformity.
*. Attempts: This is the only decision I feel that the IIT council has been harsh at and it should definitely be reffered to a higher bench from all over India and withdrawn. This rule means that we are questioning the reputation of the past 40 years alumini of the IIT's many of them who have been late entrants and have been very good and contributing to the reputation of India in intellectual power. I do agree that preparing for the same exam for so many years without surity of result can be a stressful factor. But this competition among high quality students always keeps one's aspirations high. Also, the council cannot peep into everyone's personal situations which could account for the failure. When there a max. age limit of 25 then why make such a rule. In any case, I feel that atleast 4 attempts should be given to the candidates & that too not successively. If this rule is made a blue print for future JEE admission criteria, then the IIT's will see students only from the city and rural students as dumb sufferers.
I am an aspirant of JEE 2006.
